dbEST : A division of GenBank for cDNA sequence and mapping data
The EBI is mirroring the dbEST ressources of the NCBI.
dbEST (Nature Genetics 4:332-3;1993)
is an NCBI resource, that contains
sequence and mapping data on "single-pass" cDNA sequences or
Expressed Sequence Tags from a number of organisms.
A brief account of the history and current status of human ESTs in GenBank is available
(Trends Biochem. Sci. 20:295-6;1995).
Also, consult the special "Genome Directory" issue of Nature (vol. 377, issue 6547S, 28 September 1995).
3/27/96 dbEST news!
We are currently in the process of switching to a new version of dbEST.
This will result in more up-to-date homology data for ESTs (updated on a
daily basis) and a slightly different full report format.
Expect this new report format to appear sometime in the next few weeks.
"Trace data" for sequences derived from I.M.A.G.E clones is available from the
Washington University Genome Sequencing Center.
Traces are retrieved using the identifier labelled "SourceEST_ID" in the
dbEST record (e.g. yb01a01.s1, corresponding to GenBank accession number T48601).
Physical DNA clones from I.M.A.G.E. Consortium libraries are now available from a number of
distributors .
Clones may be ordered using the identifier labelled "CloneID" in the dbEST record (e.g. 69864, corresponding to GenBank accession number T48601).
ESTs are being used to develop transcript maps of the human genome.
