Assistant Prof. Alexandros Mavrommatis

In 2014 he graduated with ΒSc in Agriculture Science and in 2019 he received his Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from the Agricultural University of Athens. He conducted post-doctoral research in the project Microalgae for Microbiome: The effect of dietary supplementation with microalgae on goats’ microbiome using metagenomics and metabolomics approaches which was funded by the State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.) (2019-2021) while he also participated in three competitive research projects funded by EU and Greece (2019-2022). He has lectured at the Veterinary School of the University of Thessaly and the Department of Agribusiness & Supply Chain Management (Agricultural University of Athens). Lastly, he has contacted research as visiting scholar in the Consorzio Agrario di Parma in cooperation with the Veterinary Department of the University of Parma (10-11/2022).

Research Interests

  • Implementation of experimental trials (Applied Nutrition) for the evaluation of various feed additives and unconventional feedstuffs
  • Research on symbiotic microbiomes (e.g. rumen microbiome) using current molecular techniques (metagenomics)
  • Research on gene expression and gene pathways regulating various cell functions such as immune-oxidative interplay

Christos Christodoulou

Christos Christodoulou is an Animal Nutritionist and currently a Ph.D. student at the lab of Nutritional Physiology and Feeding, of the Agricultural University of Athens. In his Ph.D. thesis he studies effective nutritional and sustainable strategies that improve the quality of animal products and most importantly their impact on animal health, welfare, and environment. On 2014 he completed his bachelor studies on Animal Sciences, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and on 2016 he completed his MSc studies on Animal Sciences and Animal Nutrition at the same university. On 2018, as a member of the lab team, competed on the 2018 “NOYNOY IDEA CHALLENGE” competition, which was conducted by Friesland Campina Hellas, NOYNOY Hellas and National Technical University of Athens. The lab team submitted a proposal, which was relevant to his Ph.D. thesis and was one of the awarding ideas. On 2018, as an early-stage researcher, he was seconded to Aberystwyth, Wales, for 7 months where he participated on several activities of the “Cowficiency”, an EU H2020, MSCActions, RISE Project. His research interests mainly focus on Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Animal Feed Additives and Ruminant Nutrition. His research activity at a national and international level is depicted by his involvement as a co-author in four published scientific papers at international distinctive journals and his participation in several national and international conferences. He is also a member of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP), Hellenic Zootechnical Federation and Geotechnical Chamber of Greece.
