Objectives:
Maximizing the impact of measures aimed
at helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to make the most
of electronic business opportunities is of great importance. The European
Commission Communication looks at how Europe can best learn from experience
with various strategies and support mechanisms, assess these, and then
share best practices. To this end, the Communication presented a comprehensive
outline of initiatives, under European Union programmes targeting SMEs'
specific needs. GoDigital project is one of the most important initiatives,
which covers almost all EU countries.
For greatest possible efficiency, the GoDigital project is linked to
similar national and regional programmes in EU Member States. All GoDigital
initiatives are presented on a dedicated GoDigital Web-site (http://europa.eu.int/ISPO/ecommerce/godigital),
offering links to all GoDigital stakeholders and providing a forum for
sharing best practices on e-business across Europe, namely:
-
identify
and disseminate best practices and showcases for SMEs to use e-business
-
make SMEs aware of the particular benefits of e-business
-
identify and discuss the practical obstacles that SMEs in general
and the target sectors in particular face in e-business
-
widely disseminate "Go Digital" policy orientations
The initiative has been successful, given the increased amount of interest.
The well-organised campaigns have attracted many participants. More
than 120 conferences, seminars and workshops have taken place in various
countries across Europe. During the events best practice has been presented,
experience between SMEs has been exchanged, EU e-business policy has
been disseminated and e-business related information has been diffused.
Events have resulted in valuable feedback as well as further follow
up events by most of the organizations. The contract partners and their
reports can be found from the table available via the following links:
Twelve contractors have been chosen and a series of events have been
held across Europe in the year 2002.
Six contractors have been selected for the year 2003 events.
Greece is participating in the above project through EDET. Eighteen
(18) consortia have been created to cover SMEs needs all over Greece.
AUA is actively participating, in the GoDigital project coordinating
the consortium of the region of Peloponnesus aiming to introduce around
2500 SMEs into the basic internet services and e-business practices.
